Wonk, do you know how far or close to Brian the fires are? About 15 miles from his house last we heard from him. They are in a pre-evacuation area. I think they are staying on base for now. He posted some nasty looking pics from the area on his facebook page. We made it home fine. The trip through northern Florida was eye opening. There where places along I-75 that still had 4' or more of standing water 3 days after the rain quit. Parts of the panhandle area got almost 29" of rain in 2 days.

Heat is not letting up, although I am starting to climatize to it.
what kind of temps are some of you folks dealing with? I know it's been crazy hot across the country.
There's been a couple days last week that were pretty hazy, and it turns out that it wasn't fog or humidity, but from the wildfires out west. That made me think of the dust bowl back in the 40's (I think) when New York city had two feet of dust dropped on them from out west.
Try to take it easy in the heat if you can.

With one of the hottest days of the year upon us today I'm looking forward to working in the air conditioned shop my Jetta project is being kept at.

104 yesterday. Supposed to be 106 today. That's actual temps not heat index. Heat index today is supposed to be 110 or higher. The Ohio Valley holds humidity like a bowl. I think we could hit a high that will beat the highest recorded temp ever recorded in Louisville today.
They sent us home from work at noon Thursday and told us to stay home Friday. I really felt for the guys who where welding down inside a lift barge we're building. Inside a steel box with no breeze circulating, burning rods. I was lucky enough to be in the shop running the big lathe with a fan blowing on me. Next week we're supposed to get a reprieve with rain and temps in the upper 80s lower 90s.

Aright, the temps are finally dropping to a bearable 80 or so degrees this week!

I thought it was supposed to cool down a bit this week, but judging it off of yesterday, the humidity was up and it was sticky again.
It did rain a little over night though, so that's good.

Hot and muggy seems to be this summer's forcast. We really need some rain though. I saw a news report claiming that over 2/3 of the US is under drought warning. That's not good.

We've been getting a few showers throughout the afternoon/evening, and we need them. Glad it waited until tonight tonight since we were camping last night.

we had just left Knoebels when the storms hit, and of course it was traveling east with us, so we were driving in the pouring rain for 1hr and 1/2, that probably was just a 15min down pour.

Hoping it rains some this afternoon. As I type this during lunch the bank down the street is already reading 100*. We figure its a pretty good indicator of the heat index.

It was really looking good yesterday for some rain when the cold front rolled thru, but we ended up getting a drizzle. I know their calling for spotty showers the next couple days, I just hope we get them.

yesterday felt like heaven at 78 deg or whatever it really was. We had a nice shower in the morning and last night, and I think were going to have a rain filled day today. Got to play in the mud yesterday with some heavy equipment and steep hills, never a good combination, but fun all the same. Today I'll be cutting steel for replacement floors in a couple lift houses, along with fitting and welding. So the cool weather is a great big welcome. The fact that the mountain looks like a wheat field in Nebraska ready for harvest, due to the lack of employees to mow it as every yr past, it's nice to have the rain/ fire retardent.
