To adjust the clutch if 1.. the AC works until the under hood temp gets hot and the ac begins to fail.
2.. the clutch is engaging but not holding firmly.
3... the clutch is not engaging, but you verified that it does have power to it.
Remove the center nut on the clutch pulley. This nut is only torqued to 21 ft/lbs so don't over tighten it when replacing.
Then using two screw drivers, very gently pry the clutch plate off the shaft and away from the pulley.
As you pull off the clutch plate, you should see 1 or 2 small shims. These are your adjustment for wear.
Clean up any rust on the clutch plate and remove 1 of the shims or shim in some cases and reinstall the plate. There is a clocking spline on the shaft and plate so properly align and reinstall the nut.
In some cases it may be easier to just remove the compressor from it's mounting bracket to angle up and out of the way of the fan.
NOTICE: This will not work if the electro magnetic coil is bad.
These clutches are prone to issues, expecially on the cherokee because of the tight underhood clearances and high under hood temps.
