Because Cliff won't post I figured I would share his YJ build. Here's a couple of pics from sat when we were setting up his steering. He's now running 60's front and back, ox locker up front and welded rear on 42's. 8" rear stretch and an Atlas with a 4.3 low range. Oh yeah, and 5.38's in the rears. Big change from 37 MTR's, 44 rear w/detroit and a open 30 with 4.10's.......stock transfercase with sye. This should make things a bit more fun Hopefully I didn't let the secret out too soon. Your welcome Cliff

You guys scare me. How am I going to keep up with that!? This is why I cut my losses, for now, and decided to take a break from Jeeps. As I got older my sense of self-preservation increased, and increasing my Jeep's abilities weren't in my budget.

come on Andy.... the jeep took a back seat to the V-Dub's. I would chalk up the jeep loss, to a loss of intrest of some form. If you had a bunch a friends into it where your at, your hobbies would have taken a different turn.
That's why I abandoned, hopefully only temporary, some of my own projects. It always helps to be spurn on by friends that are into the same stuff.
Dave just needs to wheel what he has, then he'll know for sure what has to change.
Besides that, when I have I ever left anyone high and dry on a wheeling trip. I may try to talk you into something your not comfortable doing, but that's how you learn you and your vehicle.
I wish we had more video of will runn ing basically just 33's and a flat bottom with a 2" budget lift, going just about anywhere I would go by a little different line.
A good spotter and a little self confidence and a NO-FEAR attitude(when needed) will get you a long way, without yard saleing your jeep all over the trail.
The only real time to upgrade or change your ride, is when you met it's match and you want more. Most people think the upgrade is going to take you further, and sadly, that's generally not the case. I saw first hand, on a couple climbs, that I made it just as far on open diffs as I did on locked, and got stuck at the same spot. Creative driving is the only way to change that.
Get out and WHEEL!

Deffinitely a big change. The gearing looks like it's going to work out well.It seems to have a pretty nice creep to it compared to the way it was.

Oh, don't get me wrong, Neil, in the earlier days I took my YJ places it had no business being, and you helped it get to, and through, those places. The problem was me as much as the Jeep's level of build. I got tired of breaking it and having to fix it just to be able to move it around or use it. And I do mean fix it, and not upgrade it, because the budget wasn't there to do it to the level I wanted it done to. Bigger tires weren't an option because spending on $$ on gearing the stock axles wasn't worth it, IMO. And if I'm building axles it's getting traction in at least on one end, lug pattern change requiring wheels as well as tires, etc, etc. I was at the point of putting even more $$ than it was worth into it, and it would still just be a 4 cylinder YJ. Sometimes you need to learn when to cut your losses and how to let go. At that point in time you're right, I had lost some interest because I couldn't build what I wanted to. OTH, I'd had it for almost 10 years and put 70K miles on it and had a lot of fun with it, but I feel it was time to move on. Now I'm ready for a serious trail rig, not a double duty, daily driver rig like that started as, and I will start with something more appropriate to what I really want to build next time around. I learned a lot with the YJ and know how and where to start next time around. I'm still here, though, and staying around here will certainly keep bug in the back of my mind. After I trim down the VW project list (and fleet) a bit, I'd like to start on another rig. I'm also working towards more budget to build on, and a better ability to manage that budget as I've gotten older.
