Just got one of these the other day. It's made to cover all of the acctual working mechanisms of the jack. The way I have my jack mounted makes it perfect, because it put the zipper facing down.
It fits like spandex on a playmate,so it is a little fun getting it on the first time. I hope after a while it will hold the form and make for easy on as well as off.

So does this need to come off to use the jack, then?

I believe it does. Just a "boot" to protect it from the elements.

yes, it has a heavy zipper on it, but it only takes a couple seconds to remove it.

Update....This thing works great,at least in the position mine is mounted in. I don't think it would work as well with the jack mounted in a standing position beings the water would run down the jack and then thru the boot. Then you would probably be better off with the full cover.

Good to know. I have had problems with the mechanism locking up from sitting outside too long. Nothing a little WD40 couldn't cure. This might be worth the investment. Thanks!

This would've helped keep the rust stains mine left on the cowl from water dripping off the mechanism, as well.

Neil, what it does do in the standing position, that is how I have mine on both Jeeps, is that here in Colorado you can keep a light coat of oil on the mechanism, put on the cover and when you take it off the oiled parts are not covered in dirt and dust...before I had to keep the working part oil free and then hit it with some WD-40 if I ever needed it...of course we don't get as much rain here either, so I am very happy with how it works...since both of mine are mounted on my spare tire carrier, the full case/cover doesn't work for me.

Obviously it will work to a point for keeping the mud and dirt off of it. Even rain for the most part. It's just that it only wraps around the jack stand and doesn't really seal to it. You might acctually be able to take a jack handle isolater and cut it down far enough to wrap the upper end of the boot around it. That would keep most,if not all the rain water from running down the mast and thru the boot.

I liked your idea Neil...but the isolator won't clear the handle so it sits about 2-3" above the boot...at least on mine...maybe if I slit the isolator on on the handle side I could open it up enough, but not sure it would help...

Yeah I thought about that after the fact. Even being above it to a point would still help shed water

Think I might invest in one of these, my jack sits in the same position.
