hey, guys, I'm not sure if you all remember me or not, but I posted pretty regularly here up until 2008 when I had to sell my YJ (Captain Jack Fonzie A.K.A. The Donkey) for a vehicle that better accommodated my growing family. Well, now I'm in a better place to be able to afford a toy, so I decided to pull the trigger on an '06 LJ! i'm excited to be back in the jeep community, and look forward to returning to this board. I always LOVED the small community feel to this board. Nobody was ever mean or nasty, and everyone seemed to be friends! I just hope you can all forgive me for leaving you for the last few years...

Welcome Back. Just about everybody has left here with only a couple old faithfuls left. We do get a couple new looks now and then but it's definitely pretty slow. Congrats on getting back into the Jeeping community. Those LJs can be real wheelers with the longer wheelbase and extra room. Any big plans for it?

Welcome back! I just let go of my YJ a little over a year ago, myself. But there will be a time and place for another Jeep in my life at some time, as you've found.

no big plans for the LJ yet. i'm still trying to figure out which way i want to go. right now it's just a super clean '06, but i'm certain i'll be changing that soon. for now i still have to finish the motor swap on my '79 monte carlo. i've been working on a LQ9 swap on that for the last few months and i'm almost done with it. once i'm done hemorrhaging money into that, i'll probably do a 3.5-4.5" lift and 33"s, bumpers winch and soft top. i did announce that i had to sell the donkey, and i tried to be excited about a grand cherokee, but it was one of the worst vehicles i had ever owned. every time i turned around it was breaking some major part of the drivetrain and drove me batty. it finally gave up the ghost at 142k, only 40,000 miles after i bought it. i was so disappointed with that vehicle i had sworn off jeeps after the daimler years for good. eventually the bug bit, and i started researching them again, and decided that a TJ would be a suitable vehicle for me to own.

If you're only wanting to run 33s, I would look at doing a Highline kit. You can keep your stock ride and fit the tires you want. Keeps the COG low for stable offroad performance. Price is usually on par with a quality 4" lift. Just an option to consider.

I have an '06 LJ also, running a 1" body lift and 2" spring spacer and 1.25" wheel spacers to clear 33"x10.50"x15" BFG AT/KO's. Swapped in the ARB locker and 4.56 ring and pinion into the front Dana 30 and the whole Teraflex CRD50 rear axle from my '02 TJ, picked up a set of Currie rock sliders, Teraflex Belly up skid plate and after some wheeling at Superlift ended up replacing my factory control arms with the Teraflex ones...makes a great light trail rig and there is room for the four of us and a weekends worth of gear.
