I'm getting up bright and early tomorrow morning to go buy a couple gallons of kerosene for the little heater in the garage. I'm going to be helping my friend Chris and his son David install an AEV 2.5" lift on his new 2013 JKUR.
Chris went out with a couple of us two weekends ago to our clubs Chili Run which turned out to be a total snot fest. We followed a trail to the bottom of the "holler" and played in a little wash for about an hour then attempted following a trail back up to the top of the ridge. The sun had started to warm the hillside and melted the top skim of frozen ground. I spent about 1.5 hours winching myself to the top. We radioed back down for Craig and Chris to find another way. Craig decided to try it and winched about twice as far as me. Unfortunately, Chris was bone stock with no winch and spent about another hour trying to find a way out. To make a long story longer, he decided he needed some height and a winch and of course a bumper to bolt it to so he ordered the winch and bumper and bought the lift kit from our local 4WD shop. High tomorrow is supposed to be about 36. YEE HAW.

Pictures of the new setup? Sounds like more fun than my Saturday. At least you were in a garage! I spent it in my friends driveway replacing.the.starter on a 2004 wj. I dont think it hit 25*!

Got it installed. The only problems where the melting salty snow dripping off the rear (got about 2" friday night), and we somehow stripped a 1/2" u-bolt nut that holds the rear track bar tower on. Chris was wrenching. I don't know??? I also screwed up a 12mm nut. The sway bar links on the JK use a 12 x 1.75mm on the top and a 12 x 1.5mm on the bottom. The 1.5 will start on the 1.75 a thread or so. Then when you stick an impact on it things go wrong. Worked from about 8:30 till 5:00 at an easy pace with a break for lunch and a trip into town to get a new 12mm bolt and nut. The u-bolt has to be ordered. If I had been working on my own, I might not have had the problems as I usually thread fastners back together in the hole they came out of as I go. I didn't do it this time.

It's always fun working with someone you don't too often. When you work with someone often enough, both of you begin to think alike, and those problems don't happen any more.

Spent this morning with Chris again. Installed his new front bumper and winch. Also replaced the stripped rear u-bolt. Found out that AEV put the wrong torque spec in the instructions. I'm anxious to see how well the winch works. It's a Quadratec 11500. I got a couple cell phone pics. I'll try to post them tomorrow.
