Here is a cool link to some self powered alert radios for receiving Noaa,am,fm,and short wave radio frequencies. I personally have an older Grundig radio with weather alert stations,am,fm and short wave(I think?). It's battery powered, but also has the internal battery with a dynomometer for self powering. It also has a built in flashlight. It works great! I want to get a newer one with the solar charger as well. The new ones are even enabled to charge smart phones. Check out the site, they have some really cool items that will help you stay tuned in with the outside world should you become stranded for longer than you would like. www.shopetoncorp.com/

After looking at my radio last night it doesn't have weather but it deffinitely has short wave on it. I do have a Handheld that has weather on it though. It's old school with batteries and can be run with a AC charger on 4v dc. It has back light, and CB channels from 9 to 29 and can transmit as well. It too will pick up short and long wave signals.
