Some have recently asked who the Admins/Moderators here at UJF are and what purpose they serve.
Bottom Line: It is our goal to provide the best Jeep resource on the internet.
We intend to do this by creating a friendly atmosphere where new and long-standing members are equally comfortable and can learn from each others experiences.
While we encourage new members to lurk initially before posting in order to learn the forum layout and become familliar with the site, we do not want to discourage even the newest of members from getting the most out of the forum. If you are looking for help, info, or anything jeep related you have come to the right place, everyone here will help you with anything you need help or info on. If you post a question and don’t get a response, it is because the other members simply don’t know the answer or where to find it.
There are no “elite” members here. Until recently, a military rank system was used with the Admins & Moderators holding officer ranks while forum members had enlisted ranks based on post count. This has been discontinued to further eliminate any perception of an "elitest society".
You will notice that there is an "Staff's Cove" (formerly the "Officers Club") area in the forum. This area exists solely for the purpose of forum adminstration. It is not intended to contribute to an elitest society, but to give the Admins & Moderators a place to share ideas on how to improve the forum which you enjoy. This category is a place where moderators discuss some of the problems and try to come up with a few solutions before putting them out on the floor for everyone to voice their opinion on.
Ault ran this site for 10 years, and at last count before the domain crash it was 10,000 members strong. He had run this forum single handed with only a few moderators, but did the bulk of the forum maintenance on his own. It takes a lot of work to keep a site running smoothly, keeping software up to date, making everything secure, and all the behind-the-scenes crap that we never see. It came to a point where Ault needed a break, so he changed the site to a free one and let other people do some of the work.
This forum is like being at an on-going family reunion. There's always a group of people involved in most of the conversation and then there are those who join in from time to time to say a few things, ask a couple questions, and then step back and keep on listening. Just like at any family reunion, there is always going to be the occasional difference of opinion. There is nothing wrong with that. You hash it out and get back to having fun.
