Ever since I installed the Tera Flex Rear Disc Brake Kit on my TJ's rear Dana 44, I have not been able to adjust the internal drum emergency brake enough for it to work right because I didn't have enough adjustment . I discovered a simple mod to add about 2 more inches of adjustment to the stock mechanism. Following is a step by step on how to make this simple mod. 1. Remove the nut from the adjuster rod and remove all three cables from the mechanism. 2. Using a grinder, grind the peaned pin down flush and drive the pin out of the adjuster mechanism. Picture of the ground out pin. These parts are discarded and no longer needed. 3. Remove the bolt. 4. Drill out the hole in the connector block where the nail used to reside large enough for the adjuster bolt to slide in. 5. I then tack welded the adjuster bolt to the connector block to keep it from turning while adjusting. 6. Shoot a little paint on it to keep it from rusting where you welded it and to make it purdy and Never-Sieze the bolt . Put it back together and adjust the cable tension. This is a photo of the finished project with the parts that are no longer needed. Hope this helps someone out.

Is there enough room to get a nut inside where the adjuster bolt goes into the connector? ( hard to tell from the Pix ) if so nutting both sides of the connector would hold it place?

I had a similar deal w/my '89 D35 in my '95. The cables were much shorter and wouldn't reach the adjuster. Now I had a much longer span to cover than 2", but I just welded a length of all thread to the adjuster bolt to extend it. Works like a charm, especially with new cables!! Now if I can remember to make an appointment for the pedal assembly recall...

No room for a nut on the inside. a couple washers and a nut on the outside might work. You really don't have to tack it, it just makes it much easier to adjust with one wrench.
